Title: The Sidewinder Personnel: Lee Morgan (trumpet), Joe Henderson (tenor sax), Barry Harris (piano), Bob Cranshaw (bass), Billy Higgins (drums). Recorded: 1963 Label: Blue Note Comments: This soulful and fiery young trumpeter would make a name for himself over a 15 year period for his incredible sound and angular lines. Discovered at age 17 by Dizzy Gillespie, Lee Morgan would go on to fulfilling career as a leader, releasing gem after gem on Blue Note. Until his untimely death in 1972 from a gunshot wound administered by an angry ex-girlfriend, his trumpet playing and soulful compositional skills were admired by his peers and eaten-up by his adoring fans. |

Title: The Gigolo Personnel: Lee Morgan (trumpet), Wayne Shorter (tenor sax), Harold Mabern, Jr. (piano), Bob Cranshaw (bass), Billy Higgins (drums). Recorded: 1965 Label: Blue Note Comments: A perfect example of a typical Lee Morgan CD, The Gigolo reveals the artistry of Lee coupled with the "mainstream" sound that his music could evoke. This CD is simply awesome and a must-have. |
