Herbie Hancock
(b. 4/12/40 - Chicago, IL)
Title: Maiden Voyage (Remastered) Personnel: Herbie Hancock (piano), Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), George Coleman (tenor sax), Ron Carter (bass), Tony Williams (drums) Recorded: 1965 Label: Blue Note Comments: Although Herbie Hancock got his first big break in the famous Miles Davis Quintet of the mid-60's, he has released some impressive CD's as a leader, including these three. His Maiden Voyage is a classic that all jazz musicians own. And as a pianist, Herbie is definitely one of the top three most important of late 20th century jazz (McCoy Tyner and Chick Corea being the other two). Additionally, his career has continued to flourish into the pop realm with his funk/techno releases in the 80's and his contributions to various film scores over the years. |
