Title: Go! Personnel: Dexter Gordon (tenor sax), Sonny Clark (piano), Butch Warren (bass), Billy Higgins (drums). Recorded: 1962 Label: Blue Note Comments: Dexter "Long-Tall" Gordon was an incredible individual. These Blue Note recordings from the 60's are all classics. In fact, any Dexter CD from this era is a classic. His big "laid-back-behind-the-beat" sound has been copied by many saxophonists since. After these recordings, he travelled to Europe, where he lived for about 15 years before returning to the U.S. in the late 70's. His later career included stints as an actor as well. He was featured in "Round 'Bout Midnight," the film based loosely on Bud Powell's life in Paris. |
