Title: Speak No Evil Personnel: Wayne Shorter (tenor sax), Freddie Hubbard (trumpet), Herbie Hancock (piano), Ron Carter (bass), Elvin Jones (drums). Recorded: 1964 Label: Blue Note Comments: Another incredibly important player in the history of jazz saxophone is Wayne Shorter. After first studying Fine Art at New York University, Wayne later changed his major to music and embarked on one of the most remarkable careers in jazz. After a few years with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in the 50's, Wayne was picked up by Miles Davis and played in his ground-breaking quintet throughout the 60's. At the same time, he was busy making a number of CD's for Blue Note, all highlighting his remarkable gift as a composer. His songs are revered by every jazz musician for their sophistication and elegant breaking of the rules. These three CD's are all classics and must-haves in any serious jazz collection. |
